Company: Airport International Group (AIG) – Queen Alia International Airport, Amman, Jordan.

Project: Rehabilitation, Expansion, and Operation Agreement of Queen Alia International Airport, which - so far - has been accomplished in the following phases/projects:

- Phase I: Constructing a New Terminal – Contract Value: US$675 million (2011–2013)

- Phase II: Extension of the New Terminal's Piers – Contract Value: US$200 million (2013–2016)

- New Fuel Hydrant System – Contract Value: US$30 million (2011–2016)

- Extension of Baggage Handling System – Contract Value: US$70 million (2016–2022)

Position: Mechanical Engineer - Technical Division (2011-2017)

Mechanical Engineering Section Head, Technical Division (2018-Present)

Responsibilities:

Phase I - Constructing a New Terminal:

  • Participate in all the Testing and Commissioning (T&C) of the mechanical systems, along with their interfaces with other systems, and ensure that the whole process and the test results are in accordance with the contractual obligations, procedures, standards, and specifications.

Prepare, report, and follow up on the comments and snags.

Review all the submitted mechanical design documents and make sure that all the required documents are properly and fully submitted.

Coordinate and manage the engineering and construction works between various internal and external stakeholders, including airport maintenance and operations departments.

Handle and issue official correspondences from/to several stakeholders.

Prepare, issue, and review Variation Orders (VO), in addition to negotiating and calculating the relevant scope/Bill of Quantities (BOQs).

Attend and manage daily, weekly, and monthly meetings/inspections with the main Contractor, subcontractors, consultants, airport maintenance, operations, and concessionaires, etc.

  • Review the design of the commercial fit out works, supervise their subcontractors, and follow up on the works on site. Also, supervise the refurbishment works within the terminal.
  • Manage the execution of the projects that are excluded from the main contractor's scope from all aspects (Design, tendering, procurement, logistics, delivery, site supervision, handing over, payments, etc.). With a value exceeding 1 million US dollars.
  • Ensure compliance with the contractual terms and assess the raised issues from a contractual perspective in liaison with the contracts administration department.
  • Manage, coordinate, and review the project handing over documents and deliverables (i.e., O&M manuals, as-built drawings, T&C results, training, spare parts, etc.).
  • Manage and follow up on warranty issues and defects during the Defects Liability Period (DLP) with the involved stakeholders.
  • Provide the required support for the ORAT process and handle the raised issues and outcomes.

Ø Phase II – Extension of the New Terminal`s Piers:

Ditto, as above, with the following additional responsibilities.

  • Attend the design workshops with all the involved internal and external stakeholders, mainly the maintenance and operations departments, mainly for the sake of defining the scope with the contractor and its designers, consultants, and sub-contractors.
  • Review the design in a holistic manner (scope, draft design, detailed engineering design, BOQs, submittals, etc.).
  • Review the monthly submitted Interim Payment Certificate (IPC).

Ø New Fuel Hydrant System:

Follow up on the progress of works on site and coordinate the works with airport operations.

Ø Extension of Baggage Handling System:

Ditto as above, considering the naturalness and uniqueness of the project (i.e., it was like an open-heart surgery).

Ø CAPEX Projects:

Managing several CapEx projects in a holistic manner (i.e., initiation, tendering, contracts, planning, execution, monitoring, and controlling until the project completion).
