I am a skilled Hematologist with extensive clinical and laboratory experience in the diagnosis, management and follow up of patients with a wide range of hematological and bone marrow disorders. I have a wide range of interests in the various felids of hematology and bone marrow disorders and am keen to having a proactive contribution to improving the Hematology Services in Jordan.
Working as a Senior Hematology Registrar at UCLH covering all aspects of the Hematology Registrar syllabus in the UK to a very senior level.
During this period I covered the same posts as those trainees in official UK training posts therefore gaining the same clinical experience. This was a full-time post.
University College London Hospital is a tertiary referral centre. Therefore I had a significant experience in the cutting edge of care for patients with a wide range of hematological disorders, educational opportunities and also exposure to clinical trials (in patient, ambulatory and outpatient delivery).
This included :
The specific posts covered during this time include:
As well as several courses attended as will be mentioned in the Skills section below.
· An emergency room internal medicine specialist at KHCC is involved in the initial evaluation and management of patients with a variety of oncology backgrounds, who arrive at the emergency department with various conditions from mild to life threatening, including history taking, physical examination, ordering appropriate laboratory tests and radiology evaluation, giving the appropriate management, and deciding on the most appropriate site of care of each patient.
· I was also involved in the stabilization of the acutely ill patients with urgent and emergent conditions, and the cardiopulmonary resuscitation of patients with cardiac arrest, till arrival of the CPR team.
· Our Job required teamwork with colleagues of various specialties including Oncologists, Nephrologists, Gastroenterologist, Cardiologists, Surgeons, Intensive Care Specialists, Pain Specialists and Interventional Radiologists.
I worked as a teaching assistant alongside the Jordan University Medical School Faculty delivering the course titled:
"An Introductory Course to Clinical Knowledge & Skills (History taking, physical examination, and ethics)."
This was a full time job, including regular on site 40 hour on call shifts.
Duties included:
This addressed the workload demands required from the haematology doctor covering the Supportive/Chemotherapy Day unit/Ambulory Care/ Aphaeresis Unit services at The Macmillan Cancer Cnetre which outweighed one physician’s ability to deliver quality care for patients in a safe and timely fashion, especially given the rapidly expanding haematology service at UCLH. This project lead to sufficient evidence to support the necessity for provision of further staff members to cover this service. The suggested solution was to fund a physician assistant post that will help reduce the work burden required of the registrar covering this service, hence minimising delays in patient reviews and provision of optimal patient care. Feedback obtained following these changes confirmed resolution of the issue, and reflected the effectiveness of implementing a closed loop system for effective quality improvement.
