Enas Abusalim

Working as a Senior Hematology Registrar at UCLH covering all aspects of the Hematology Registrar syllabus in the UK to a very senior level.

During this period I covered the same posts as those trainees in official UK training posts therefore gaining the same clinical experience. This was a full-time post.

University College London Hospital is a tertiary referral centre. Therefore I had a significant experience in the cutting edge of care for patients with a wide range of hematological disorders, educational opportunities and also exposure to clinical trials (in patient, ambulatory and outpatient delivery).

This included :

• Provision of compassionate, personalized care and frequent communication on progress and treatment options.
• Implementing evidence-based practices and treatment protocols in internal medicine.
• Managing acute medical problems while coordinating with emergency room and intensive care staff, admitting patients into hospital, and providing appropriate treatment plans.
• Participated in quality improvement initiatives to identify areas of potential growth and implement changes to enhance patient care delivery.
• Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans addressing patients'' medical, emotional, and social needs.

The specific posts covered during this time include:

• Outpatient posts such as Ambulatory care, Supportive care/chemotherapy Daycare , outpatient clinics including General haematology diagnostics clinic, Myeloma, Waldenstrom, POEMS, CHAD, MPN, Leukaemia, MDS, BM failure, Lymphoma, Histiocytosis, Red cell, TTP, ITP, Platelet disorder, Cancer VTE, Obstetrics Thrombosis and haemostasis, APS and complex thrombosis clinic, BMT, and CAR-T clinics.
• Inpatient Posts including Leukaemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma, Red cell, CART, and BMT, TTP, Transfusion, and Coagulation.
• Residential On-calls : I also took part in regular residential ( on site) on-call rota out of hours as the other trainees.
• Procedures: Regular performance of Intrathecal chemotherapy and BMAT procedures, independantly.
• Consultation services including Coagulation, Transfusion, Red cell diagnostics and General haematology consultations.
• Laboratory: Specialist coagulation, general diagnosis, SIHMDS (The Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service) malignant diagnosis and transfusion.
• Other educational experience: Over 300 hours of CPD points including Weekly teaching and audit on a broad range of topics covering whole syllabus and weekly laboratory teaching including morphology, flow cytometry and HPLC.

As well as several courses attended as will be mentioned in the Skills section below.

· An emergency room internal medicine specialist at KHCC is involved in the initial evaluation and management of patients with a variety of oncology backgrounds, who arrive at the emergency department with various conditions from mild to life threatening, including history taking, physical examination, ordering appropriate laboratory tests and radiology evaluation, giving the appropriate management, and deciding on the most appropriate site of care of each patient.

· I was also involved in the stabilization of the acutely ill patients with urgent and emergent conditions, and the cardiopulmonary resuscitation of patients with cardiac arrest, till arrival of the CPR team.

· Our Job required teamwork with colleagues of various specialties including Oncologists, Nephrologists, Gastroenterologist, Cardiologists, Surgeons, Intensive Care Specialists, Pain Specialists and Interventional Radiologists.

• I worked as an Internal Medicine Specialist, Lecturer and Program Director in Al-Balqa'a University Medical School. I used a variety of learning modalities and support materials to facilitate the learning process. I collaborated with faculty and staff to create meaningful learning experiences. This included organizing lectures, teaching rounds, and student exams.
• I led daily clinical teaching rounds.
• I delivered lectures in various topics in Internal Medicine, Using a variety of learning modalities and support materials to facilitate learning process and accentuate presentations.
• Supervising seminars.
• Mentored and advised students to explore career pathways encouraging knowledge, skills and strengths.
• Obtained regular student feedback regarding the overall teaching process.
• I also worked as an internal medicine specialist in the Out-Patient clinic of King Hussein Public Hospital (Al-Salt, Jordan) which is affiliated with Al-Balqa' Applied University.

I worked as a teaching assistant alongside the Jordan University Medical School Faculty delivering the course titled:

"An Introductory Course to Clinical Knowledge & Skills (History taking, physical examination, and ethics)."

This was a full time job, including regular on site 40 hour on call shifts.

Duties included:

• Applying evidence-based medicine principles while devising treatment strategies leading to optimized patient outcomes.
• Development of strong rapport with patients, building trust through empathetic communication and active listening skills.
• Enhanced diagnostic accuracy with thorough analysis of laboratory results and radiologic studies.
• Conducted physical examinations for periodic health assessments, ensuring accurate evaluation of overall health status for each patient.
• Provided compassionate care to patients, addressing concerns and answering questions to ensure satisfaction.
• Participated in continuing medical education programs to stay current on the latest advancements in healthcare practices.
• Improved patient care by meticulously documenting medical histories, physical examinations, and treatment plans.

• Independently performed bedside procedures such as venipuncture, IV placement, ABG sampling, central venous access, lumbar punctures, bone marrow aspirates and trephine biopsy collection, pleurocentesis, and ascetic fluid aspiration
